Absolutely exquisite

I haven't read anything this brilliant in a long time, I got the audiobook specifically to support Mr. Barnes, however this book is thrilling in ways I hadn't expected. People kept asking if I was reading for a university class, but it had just caught my attention that deeply, that I had to read it. Oscar Wilde was an amazing author and invoked my innermost poet. I didn't want to finish the book, it was that good. I will definitely read it again soon. Truly divine.

Great performance, good story, frustrating navigation

I loved Ben's performance of this classic story, his voice fit the time period well, I feel. And ofcourse his portrayal in the film will have helped him perform this way in the audiobook.

One thing I didn't like is that the chapters do not match up. The introduction (which is a bit too long and unneccisary for me) is put in as chapter one and continued in chapter two, whereafter chapter One takes place in the chapter two slot. It's very frustrating. I think it'd be much improved to switch the introduction to it's own slot and let the chapters sync with the slots….

Classic

Ben Barnes gives an amazing performance as Dorian Gray. This version also includes an interesting review of the book and the controversy that surrounded it and its author.

Can't get anything other than the sample to play, audible won't let me return it either.

Title doesn't work. Nothing but the sample will play. I tried to return it but Audible won't let me do so. Wasted credit!

Perfect!

I have been searching for a good narration of this book for some time. They were all either too slow or didn't fit the image formed in my head (you know what I mean, the one every reader forms the first time they read a book). But Ben's narration is perfect. His pacing of the story, his voices for the characters, the overall feel is spot on. Ben really embodies the character, which makes sense considering he played him in the movie adaptation. Whether you're ready to dive into The Picture of Dorian Gray for the first time or looking to revisit an old favorite, definitely give this one a listen.

Marvelous!

I'm not a native speaker, and this is among the first classics I'm listening to as audiobooks. Ben Barnes did a fantastic job of narrating this. This audiobook is easy to understand, all characters' voices can be differentiated easily, and it was a genuinely fun time indeed! I hope he gets to read more audiobooks in the future because he's one of my favorite voices so far. Really recommend for those who are studying English or just want to consume more classics/literature. A great one if you're looking for good enunciation!

Ben Barnes was perfect for this narration.

I enjoyed this reading very much. I hope Ben Barnes sits for more titles; his ability to carry his voice to the different characters is quite exceptional.

Absaloute banger

I love this book. Opulent imagery, classic story and the way they talk to one another is hilarious to me.

Also, the narrators voice kind of makes me want to bang him.

Absolutely astonishing performance

The legendary work by Oscar Wilde is one of the most remarkable portraits of all the exquisite manners, curiosity and degradation of the English society in the XIX century. Still its fascinating and wonderfuly performed by the talented Ben Barnes who once had the opportunity to portray Dorian Grey himself in the film by Oliver Parker made in 2009.
I would recommend this audio book with all my heart 📖✨

Boring.

Love the whole concept of Dorian Gray but this audible just bored me. Maybe it was the narrator I don't know. I had to return it for fear of boredom again.

It's OK. It's just not great

Narrator had a lovely voice, but as a narrator reading parts, it was a bit flat. The story itself was good, but not gripping.. Maybe it was the way it was read.

Definitely Worth Listening To

This is the first Oscar Wilde work I have read (listened to) and I was not disappointed. His use of language and turn of phrase are wonderful.
I knew the basic premise of the story - it is so well known - but to hear/read it in full is something I would recommend to everyone with an interest in human nature.
The narrator did a good job and made this an enjoyable listen. My reason for giving four, rather than five, stars is that there could perhaps have been just a little more distinction between the voicing of the two main characters. Occasionally it wasn't clear which one was speaking.
Overall though I would definitely recommend this.

peaks and troughs

Found this book a bit of a roller coaster, interesting at the start, a bit of a lull in the middle, and then the final 4 chapters were brilliant. Highly recommended but stick with it if you find some of the chapters a little repetitive and dull, its worth it in the end!

compelling story and beautiful narration

I loved to listen to this book after reading it in the Italian translation more then twenty years ago. Ben Barnes was great, to the point that I forgot it was him who was reading.

One of the best books I've listened too!

First time I've read any oscar wilde and it certainly lived up to expectations. Exquisitely written with such rich language and excellently narrated. The narrator does a wonderful rendition.
